As an affiliate marketer- choosing a niche would be easy.
Look at the market, look at the trends, pick the one that is most popular and that when you promote will give you more bang for your buck.
But ...that's the reason why affiliate marketing has such a sleazy connotation attached to it.
There is no emotion or connection to what you are recommending.
So I suggest that if you are going to be in the affiliate marketing business. Don’t be just an affiliate marketer. Be an Affiliate Influencer.
An Affiliate Influencer:
- Cares about her people
- Values the products that she uses and loves to show just how much she uses them
- And shows others how best to use them
- Does not want her people to waste money on junk
- She understands that money is needed to run her business but wants to run her business with integrity.
So …as an Affiliate Influencer …How do you choose your niche?
The main thing you ought to consider is picking a specialty that you feel enthusiastic about. With affiliate marketing, it’s ideal to compose and working in an area daily.. If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, chances are slim that you’ll stick to it for very long.
On the off chance that you pick something that won’t fulfill you to wake up and work every morning, at that point you’re in an awful position before you even begin. After some time, in the event that you hate what you’re doing, you’ll get bored.
Also..think about your people in this niche. Let’s be blunt. Would you even like them? Because these will be your people. You may want to open up a Facebook Group to help with your promotions, but it will make things much easier if you love your people!
In the end, you may even feel discouraged and detest what you’re doing. This is the exact opposite of what you want to experience in your work life. Make sure you have the ability to dig into your niche forever.
Next, you need to look at the longevity of the niche. You’ll want to avoid something that’s considered a fad and will be obsolete before you start making any money. With affiliate marketing, it will take some time to begin making substantial income, even though initial commissions can be seen right away.
Once you’ve built up a niche, you want to be able to keep it going for a long period of time. So make sure your choice isn’t something that will be here today and gone tomorrow. You want your hard work to pay off long-term.
When you choose a niche that interests you and has a wide variety of products that you can promote, you’ll have more success in the long run.
If you have no idea where to start…
You might begin with large, evergreen markets such as make money online, weight loss, golf, pets, gardening, coffee, and similar markets. Then carve out a smaller niche for yourself (e.g., diets for men over 50). Here are a few examples that you can start with.
Relationships are one of the top niches online – people wanting to meet compatible matches and people wanting to save their existing relationships. But there aren’t as many tangible items you can promote in this niche. It’s primarily info product related.
Make Money Online or Finance:
Money is a similar niche that primarily has digital info product courses available to promote. But keep in mind that these two top niches have courses online that pay out a nice amount per sale – and plenty of people searching for them online.
Diet is a niche that’s evergreen in nature, suitable for both genders and many age groups – plus it offers a bevy of opportunities to sell both digital and tangible items. There are many online digital courses to help with weight loss, and many of them cater to a specific audience, like baby boomers or women.
Self-help is a popular niche. People are looking for more mindset advice – stress relief, for example. You can pair an info product course promotion with the promotion of items like soothing candles, supplements, stress-busting gadgets, and even massage technology.
Insomnia and other health issues:
Insomnia is a popular niche. Sleep disorders are very common and there are both digital and tangible products available for you to promote on your site. Along with a digital course, think of tangibles like better bedding, soothing CDs, sleep masks, white noise machines, sleep supplements, and more.
Coffee, Gourmet foods and ways of Cooking (Fondue)
Coffee and other gourmet foods are popular. When you have someone who is an enthusiast for coffee, they’ll spend top dollar on a variety of things – from courses teaching them about the topic to special tangible items like coffee grinders, brewers, beans, and more.
Parenting is a popular niche, too. This is a niche where moms and dads like to get advice on raising their kids, but they also have many tangible items to buy like nursery furniture, toys, educational items, clothes and more.
Pets are great affiliate niches – and you can specialize in one that you enjoy – dogs, cats, and tropical fish being the most popular. You can buy both info products on things like how to care for tropical fish – and tangible items like fancy aquariums, fish food, and tank décor.
Household & organization:
Household items are a big niche – and this goes for both indoor and outdoor. Homeowners are always buying like blenders, vacuums, lawnmowers, sheds, gardening supplies and more. They also buy info products to go with them, like how to grow tomatoes – and you could sell everything from the seeds to the pots they grow in!
Broad Niche or Narrow Niche?
If you go with a broad niche, it means you have to have fantastic organization of the sub-niches. It’s very possible to do, but it will take time to rank well in the search engines for the broad spectrum of topics.
So let’s say you decided to tackle the children’s toy niche. You could have a general toy site, but you’d still need to organize the content into things like toys based on age, gender, materials, brands, indoor versus outdoor, etc.
Or, you could go with a narrow approach in your niche. This makes it really easy for you to rank quicker with an authority site.
Either way you choose – broad or narrow – you can work your way back over time. So if you choose a broad niche, you can work over time to dig into the narrow levels and provide expertise there for your affiliate income.
What if I Start This out The Wrong Way?
Don’t worry if you’ve started out the wrong way because eventually, your goal is to have complete domination in a niche. You have to look at this from a long-term perspective, not what will help you make the most amount of money in 30 days.
The great thing about both niches is that you can search for keywords that will help guide you in the type of content that you want to create. Over time, you may want to move from free keyword tools to the paid versions that give you more information about the kind of edge you can expect to have over the competition if you rank well for them.
Pick whichever strategy you feel more comfortable with right now – broad or narrow – and then if you want to move into a new direction, you can do that without any problems down the road.
So we established that as an Affiliate Influencer has to :
- Determine what you are passionate about
- Determine if you love the group of people you are working with (either socially or behind your computer covertly- Introverts…I see you!)
- Start with one of the broad niches that typically do great with affiliate marketing and work your way down to a sub-niche.
- Ask yourself if your niche solves a problem for your audience in a simple and fast way.
- Have fun finding products to promote!
