Before you can start earning money, you’ll need to come up with a niche or an idea of a topic . There are many ways to brainstorm a topic. We’ll go over a few of them here, but first things first.
Know Your Peeps! – What do they struggle with, what is their desperate need, what do they stay up with at night, what are their needs and what ability do they have to pay for some vital information to solve that problem? If you’re not sure, but you already have an audience who are list members, you can ask them. Send a survey, or invite questions that you’ll answer on your blog, or better yet…if you have a Facebook group…no waiting…you can ask them in real time! This is a great way to get insight into what your ideal client needs.
Consider Your Area of Expertise — What do you already know? What are you doing right now in your day job? It’s likely that you already know a lot of things that can help others.
Make a list of the things that you already know and could easily write a sort of mini course or step by step guide. Don’t leave anything out. Even if you only have a beginner level of knowledge, that’s okay, because someone else needs that knowledge.
Think about Things that Interest You – Do you have a passion or are very curious about something, but that interest you that both you and your audience would be interested in learning about? If so, write these down too, because you can always hire someone to do the work for you. Ghostwriters can be found on sites like elance.com or Fiverr.com
Keep a Running List of Ideas – Whether it’s an actual notebook you keep with you at all times or a notebook app on your smartphone( like Evernote….LOVE ME SOME EVERNOTE!) I cannot stress how important it is to keep something close to you. Because what will happen is that when you are doing everyday mundane things and actions…..a perfect idea will pop in your head. Once you start the creative process…it doesn’t stop ….even if you want to take a shower! Do not rely on your memory. You may wake up at 2 am with the most amazing idea. If you don’t write it down it, you’ll forget it.
Create a Brainstorming Mind Map – Mind maps can be used for many things, which includes massive brain dumps. I use the oversize post it notes for brain dumps and then I put them on my wall. If you can use the mind map, it’s a good way to get your thoughts organized and on paper, so that you can get started creating your course or product. You can also use xmind for this.
Coming up with an idea is just half the battle. You need to make sure that whatever you choose, you will have an interest in it and you can enjoy writing a little bit about it, because if you are like me….if I don’t even half the slightest interest in it……that idea will flush down the toilet with the others.
Some come up with something that will keep you truckin’ on …and finish the race!
